Primary 7 – Transition Visits
Yesterday our Primary 7 pupils welcomed Secondary Teacher, Miss McColl from Dumfries Academy, who came to talk about transition to Secondary School and deliver a fantastic “Northern Lights” themed Art lesson inspired by the work of American artist Jen Aranyi. Primary 7’s are very proud of their art and some of their finished masterpieces can be found on the school website.
“I thought I liked art but now I’m going to love it at secondary school!” Callum
Further transitions activities are being organised with Dumfries Academy with the next one taking place on December 19th 2024. Pupils will be visiting Dumfries Academy to sample learning in the Secondary context and participate in a Home Economics lesson. Please check your child’s home/school diaries for further details.
P6 and P7 Into Film Festival Screening
The Primary 6 and 7 pupils really enjoyed their trip to the Robert Burns Cinema and were grateful for the lovely weather for their walk to get there! It was very interesting to watch a video of Michael Morpurgo talking about his book and they all thoroughly enjoyed watching the film.
“The film was different from the book but I still really enjoyed it” – Bethany (P7)
“The story was very heartfelt and I enjoyed the film” – Callum (P7)
“The animation and the story were beautiful but there were some very emotional parts of the story too” – Maeve (P7)
We would all like to say thank you to Miss Bodell for organising this trip and helping us out on the day.
St Andrew’s Day
It was lovely to see so many of our pupils wearing a ‘Touch of Tartan’, or in some cases a great deal of Tartan to celebrate St Andrew’s Day on Thursday of this week. The whole school was very colourful and certainly and made us all feel very patriotic. We also celebrated with some traditional Scottish shortbread, washed down with some Irn Bru!
To support awareness of this special day our Pupil Council arranged an ‘in-house’ art competition for each class. They have been learning about the myth of the Wild Haggis and producing a drawing of what we think it might look like! Our Pupil Council are now busy judging the entries and will announce the winners in each class at next week’s Assembly.
World Children’s Day – 20th November (by Callum P7 and Kayda P7)
Thank you to everyone who came to school wearing blue to celebrate World Children’s Day. The school was a sea of blue colours on Wednesday and it was fun to see what everyone chose to wear (Kayda). It is important to see everyone raise awareness for World Children’s Day and it was amazingly fun to celebrate children and their rights (Callum).
Remembrance Poppy Appeal – 11th November 2024
Thank you to everyone who has shown their support to this year’s Poppy Appeal. It has been lovely to see so many pupils wearing their poppies with pride and honouring the two-minute silence in class so respectfully.
After a week of selling poppies we were able to raise a total of £63.78
Thank you so much to everyone who donated.

Operation Safety
On Tuesday, our Primary 7 class had a very interesting and informative day at Operation Safety. They thoroughly enjoyed learning many new skills and strategies that will be of value and of great benefit to them in everyday life, as they become increasingly more independent, and also in any emergency situations they may find themselves in. I am sure that they had lots to share and talk about when they got home that evening!
Royal Scottish National Orchestra Concert Trip
On Thursday 12th September, Primary 4 and Primary 7 attended a concert at The Bridge in Dumfries, held by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The children had the opportunity to listen to songs played by the orchestra, as well as join in with some singing! They learned about the various sections of an orchestra and the names of instruments which are played alongside each other. Both classes had a great time and if any of the children are feeling inspired by their morning out of school, lessons for various instruments are available.
Lilah and Eilidh are using sticks and each others head to make a rhythm for the trombone to play along with!
Cody and Faiz are amazed when a musician sets up a Double Bass!
Primary 7 pupils are excitedly waiting for the show to start!
House Captain Speeches 2024 – 2025
Well done to all our Primary 7 pupils who put themselves forward for the position of House Captain this week. The votes were extremely close and today during our Assembly, we took the time to congratulate our newly appointed representatives who will be taking on the leadership roles of House Captain and Vice-Captain within the school this session:
