 P2 – Term 2 Overview for Parents & Families

On Wednesday there was lots of singing, dancing and games for our Primary 1 – 3 pupils, who had their Christmas party.  It was lovely to see everyone in their party clothes and having a fun time, taking part in all the festive games and dance! Thank you to everyone for kindly donating an item of food for the Christmas party – these were very much enjoyed by all the children.  Your support and generosity is very much appreciated.

Also, a big THANK YOU to the Parent and Carer Group for the Christmas gift for each class, which they were delighted to receive.

School Christmas Show – McTivity (P1-3)

Well I am sure everyone who came to see our Primary 1-3 Christmas Show this week will agree that all of our pupils put on an excellent performance and all their hard work over the last few weeks paid off.  Once again I wish to say a very big THANK YOU to all the staff who without their hard work events such as this would not take place and a massive WELL DONE to all of our Primary 1-3 pupils who gave us a fantastically wonderful Christmas Show! We are so proud of you all!

We are now very much looking forward to our Upper Primary Christmas Show – ‘The Stars are Coming Out for Christmas’ will be held on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th December in the afternoon. I look forward to welcoming you then.

Christmas Singing at The Granary Mews

In our endeavours to spread some Christmas cheer, the Global Gang thought it was the perfect opportunity to engage with elderly members of our local community and as a result on Monday myself and four members of the Global Gang  Darcie (P4), Lennox, P6. Micah (P5) and Lilah (P5) met with members of The Granary Community and arranged for our Primary 1 and 2 pupils to sing some of their Christmas Concert songs. It was a wonderful afternoon with the children showcasing their talents whilst at the same time providing entertainment for elderly members of our community.

Here are some of our Global Gang members meeting with management at the Granary Mews to arrange for P1 and 2 to visit and sing some Christmas songs.

St Andrew’s Day

It was lovely to see so many of our pupils wearing a ‘Touch of Tartan’, or in some cases a great deal of Tartan to celebrate St Andrew’s Day on Thursday of this week.  The whole school was very colourful and certainly and made us all feel very patriotic.  We also celebrated with some traditional Scottish shortbread, washed down with some Irn Bru!

To support awareness of this special day our Pupil Council arranged an ‘in-house’ art competition for each class. They have been learning about the myth of the Wild Haggis and producing a drawing of what we think it might look like! Our Pupil Council are now busy judging the entries and will announce the winners in each class at next week’s Assembly.

World Children’s Day – 20th November (by Callum P7 and Kayda P7)

Thank you to everyone who came to school wearing blue to celebrate World Children’s Day. The school was a sea of blue colours on Wednesday and it was fun to see what everyone chose to wear (Kayda). It is important to see everyone raise awareness for World Children’s Day and it was amazingly fun to celebrate children and their rights (Callum).

Read Write and Count – P2 and P3 Family Engagement/Learning Event

Thank you to everyone that attended our Read, Write, Count Family Engagement/Learning Events for Primary 2 and Primary 3 this week.

The aim of the Read, Write, Count Campaign delivered by the Scottish Book Trust is to encourage families to include reading, writing and counting activities in their everyday lives and become actively engaged in their child’s learning journey.

We held a mini gifting event where families had the opportunity to sit with their child and together explore the contents of the bag and get ideas on how everyday activities can be used to enhance and celebrate our children’s literacy and numeracy skills.  For pupils whose parent/family members were unable to attend, do not worry, a Primary 7 pupil explored the items in the bag with them.

This was a wonderful opportunity and I was delighted to see so many of you there.

P2 & P6 Trip to Kirkcudbright Dark Space Planetarium

On Thursday, Primary 2 and Primary 6 visited the Dark Space Planetarium in Kirkcudbright. Whilst at the Dark Space Planetarium, both classes enjoyed a visit to the planetarium where they got to explore the planets, stars and moons in our solar system and learned some interesting facts about each of the planets. Afterwards, they watched a film about how satellites can help us take better care of our planet. Each class also explored the exhibitions to get a sense of what it would be like working as an astronaut in space. They looked at different constellations, had a go with some space gloves and watched some videos of rocket launches. All pupils were very well behaved and were a credit to our school. Well done, Primary 2 and Primary 6!

Primary 2 Police Station Visit

On Tuesday 4Th June, Primary 2 visited the Loreburn Street Police Station. They met PC Wilson and she showed them around. They looked at a police van and PC Wilson put on the blue flashing lights and the sirens. It was very loud! Then everyone had a turn at sitting in the cell on the van which was very exciting. Afterwards, P2 got to try on different police hats and jackets. Finally, they had time to watch the CCTV cameras and even got to see themselves walking towards the Police Station. Primary 2 had a great time learning about the role of a Police Officer and were all very well behaved. Well done, Primary 2.
