Dumfries Y Gymnastics Competition
Congratulations to Joel in P6 in winning 1st place for Floor, 1ST place for Vault and 1st place overall in the under 12s category. Keep it up, we are so proud of you Joel!
Well done to Amelia in P4 attending and participating in her first gymnastics competition. Amelia done really well and got 6th place within her category. Fantastic work Amelia, keep up the good work!
Congratulations to Georgia in P6 for securing 1st place in all categories at gymnastics and being placed 1st overall! We are super proud of Georgia.
A big well done to Brody in P6 for being awarded his first ‘Man of the Match’ at is recent Ice Hockey competition. I am sure it is the first of many.
On Thursday both Angus (P5) and Piper (P3) represented St Michael’s Primary School at the Dumfries and Galloway Scottish Schools Swimming Championships. They were both competing in the under12 age group, which is quite a feat considering they are much younger than most of the other competitors. I was luck enough to be able to go along for a little while to show our support and they were placed in most of their races, with Angus claiming Gold in the 50m Fly! Fabulous result, we are so proud of you!

Angus – Congratulations to Angus in Primary 5, he has once again came away from a weekend of swimming with medals. Competing in a category of 89 competitors he came 5th in the 25m Fly and 6th in the 50m backstroke. Well done we are so proud of you!

Congratulations to Peyton (P1) who managed to complete a chin up circle over on the bar by herself! Peyton attends Dumfries Y Gymnastics club. Well done Peyton, we are very proud of you.
Well done to Marr (P4) who achieved his green belt in tTaekwon-Do. Marr shared some of his moves and we learned that the green belt signifies the plants growth as the Taekwon-Do skills begin to develop.
Finally, congratulations to Georgia (P5) who achieved her Swim Skills 1 Award this week. Georgia has become more confident in the water and has begun to demonstrate more core aquatic skills.
Term 1 – 2024/25

Congratulations to Ruby (P3) who took part in an inflatable 5k run at the weekend in Blackpool. Ruby shared at assembly that she had to run for over an hour and climb up lots of different obstacles. Well done Ruby, this sounds fun and a great way to keep fit!
Congratulations also go to Angus (P5) who has been successful in his swimming again this week! Angus achieved 4 gold medals for back, breast, butterfly stroke and another for a mixture of all of these strokes. He also won a silver for his front crawl. Huge congratulations Angus!

Congratulations to Isla in Primary 2 who took part in her first session at Dumfries Y Gymnastics Club. Isla was a ‘session super star’ and told us that she thoroughly enjoyed being part of the club and that she is looking forward to going back again soon. Well done Isla, a St. Michael’s Super Star too!
Jayke (P3) travelled to Glasgow with Lochar Thistle Football Club to take part in the Glasgow City Cup at the weekend. Jayke brought home a medal for taking part and shared with us that he managed to score 8 goals in his position of striker. Well done Jayke, that is a fantastic achievement, we are very proud of you.

Congratulations to Angus in P5 who took part in a swimming competition on Sunday and swam against other children of the same age from Glasgow, Newcastle, Renfrew, East Kilbride, and Ayrshire. Angus swam 3 x 50m races in back stroke, breaststroke, and free style. When he was not swimming, Angus was being a great support to his team mates cheering them on. Angus received a bronze medal for his back stroke and also received 6th place ribbons for breaststroke and freestyle. Fantastic effort Angus, we are so proud of you!
Congratulation also go to Amelia-Grace (P2) who recently took part in her first gymnastic session and received a certificate for completing amazing work at her first session. We are so proud of you Amelia-Grace.
Xanthe (P5) also shared her wider achievements for completing so many park runs she has now completed and ultra-marathon over the weeks. This is such a fantastic achievement Xanthe, and a brilliant way of keeping fit. Well done.
Finally, we want to congratulate Jayce (P5) who travelled to Sheffield to take part in a Best of British Ice Hockley Camp in August. Jayce shared with us some of the new skills he has developed along with some of the incredible goals he scored. What a fantastic achievement Jayce, well done.

Well done Rory (P3) who has had a super week achieving ‘Beaver of the Week’ at Beavers, as well as passing ‘Octopus Level 1’ at his swimming club!
Also, congratulations to Isla (P3) who has now achieved ‘Octopus level 2’ at her swimming club!
Well done to Finlay (P2) who achieved the grade of 3rd Kai in Judo, during the summer holidays.
Finally, a big thank you to Angus (P4) who confidently shared with us at Assembly his recent opportunity to meet Olympic Swimmer Adam Peaty. Angus is a competitive swimmer and hopefully this meeting has inspired him!

Term 4
14/06/24 – Congratulations to Calum (P2) who brought not just one but TWO trophies to share at assembly. Calum won both trophies for taking part in activities with Heston Rovers Football Club and Heston Rovers 2024 Football Tournament. We love to hear about our children’s wider activities when not at school, so please keep sending in their achievements.
14/06/24 – Congratulations to Chimmy (P3) who has been awarded his Goldfish 2 swimming certificate and badge. Chimmy was able to answer water safety questions, perform a back float, perform a mushroom float and swim 10m front and back crawl. This is fantastic Chimmy, well done.
14/06/24 -You may remember that we shared in our weekly bulletin a while ago that Feis Rois were running several classes where children could participate in Gaelic and music opportunities. We have had three pupils that have brought in certificates for taking part in these classes. Hugh congratulations to Rory (P2), Isla (P2) and Campbell (P2) who have all taken part and enjoyed their session.
07/06/24 – Congratulations to Marr who recently competed in a tournament as part of his taekwondo club. Marr won a medal for taking part and showed us some of his moves at assembly. You really are Marr the Star!
07/06/24 – Also huge congratulations to Carter (P2) who climbed Criffel at the weekend in a fundraising effort to buy new kits for his football club, Greystone Rovers. Carter brought some photographs in to assembly and shared with everyone that it took them one hour and thirty minutes to climb mount criffel and thirty minutes to get back down 🙂 They were incredibly successful though and managed to raise £126.00. What an achievement!
17/05/24 – Congratulations to Angus (P4) who travelled to Broxburn last weekend to compete in a swimming competition against children from all over Scotland. Angus came 1st place in the 9 and under, 50 metre backstroke and 100 metre individual races. He also won a silver in the freestyle. This is a fantastic achievement Angus; well done, we are all very proud of you.
17/05/24 – Congratulations to Amelia (P2) who has achieved her promise badge, construction badge, animal lover badge, first aid badge and her drawing badge with her rainbows club. For her first aid badge Amelia has had to look after other help people if they are not well or injured. Well done Amelia, this is such a fantastic achievement,
17/05/24 – Congratulations to Romeo (P4) who has won two medals at his karate club. These were won for competing and sparring. His gold sparing medal was won against many other competitors, so this is a fantastic achievement. Well done Romeo.
17/05/24 – Carter (P2) also achieved medals in karate. He brought 5 medals in to share; a gold which he won for completing a five kick combo. His other silver medals were for a flying sidekick and hand drills. Well done Carter, what a St. Michael’s star you are!
03/05/24 – Congratulations to Jessica and Harriet (P2) and Rein (P7) who recently took part in a Razzamataz performance called ‘Fantastically Great Children Who Changed the World’. All three girls danced to The Sound of Music and Rein also danced to The Boy in the Dress. Harriet also won a star of the week certificate for her efforts in the dance lessons. Well done to you all.
03/05/24 -Congratulations to Lilah (P4) who has moved up to level 4 in her gymnastics group. She can now complete handstand flat backs and cartwheels. We are very proud of you.
03/05/24 -Congratulations to our Primary 6 pupils Jigme, Kayda, Tatiana and Valencia who came 1st in the Dumfries and Galloway Euro Quiz heats on Thursday afternoon at Troqueer Primary School and will now go forward to compete in the National Final at Holyrood in June. It was a tough quiz and the results were very close but they have worked very hard preparing for this event and should be extremely proud of themselves! Also, a big thanks to our reserve Callum, who came along and gave the team some moral support. You are all St Michael’s stars!
03/05/24 -Congratulations to Primary 6 pupil Jigme, who recently received his ‘Certificate of Investiture’ from the Cub Scouts. We look forward to hearing all about his adventures now that he is a member of the 10th Dumfriesshire Scout Cub Pack.
03/05/24 – Well done to Primary 6 pupil Valencia who has been working with staff at the Willows to create their lovely new ‘Welcome’ mural. She was responsible for helping to paint the ferns, the bee’s wings and the tail and ears on the fox.
03/05/24 – Congratulations to several of our pupils who have all earned new belts in their karate classes this week. Well done to Campbell (P2) who has achieved his yellow belt, Romeo (P4) with his blue stripe, Grace C (P4) with her red stripe and Lucas (P6) with his red stripe. We are very proud of you all!
03/05/24 – Congratulations to Kaitlin (P5) who completed a scuba diving activity on her recent holiday to Turkey and achieved a special certificate to celebrate her accomplishments. We hope you enjoyed your scuba experience Kaitlin.

Well done to Primary 7 pupils Amelia, Katie, Mujtaba and Rami, who represented St Michael’s Primary in the Rotary Quiz which took place yesterday at Troqueer Primary, after school. They demonstrated a wide range of knowledge across a variety of subjects and I am delighted to report that they were second out of 11 teams, which is a wonderful achievement – we are very proud of you all!
A number of our pupils and their families are observant of Ramadan and have been celebrating Eid over recent days. We hope you all have a lovely time with family and friends celebrating the festival of Eid and look forward to hearing all about it on your return to school.

22/03/24 – Congratulations Harley P4 who received a certificate for passing his level 7 gymnastics last night – Well Done Harley! Well done to Harriet P2 who was ‘Star of the Week’ at Razzamataz Minis Theatre School this week for her excellent singing – Fantastic Harriet we are super proud of you!
15/03/24 – Congratulations to Ruby P2 who was awarded a medal for being ‘Boxer of the Month’ because of good listening and boxing by Southwest Amateur Boxing Club – Well done Ruby, keep up the good work.
08/03/24 – Congratulations to Jayce P4 who received a medal for Solway Sharks ‘Man of the Match’ at a recent ice hockey game, the team won 5-1 and Jayce scored 4 of these goals – Well Done Jayce a fantastic achievement.
01/03/24 – Congratulations to Piper P2 who achieved Swim Skills Level 3 Award this week and received a certificate from the Learn to Swim Programme held at DG1. Well done Piper we are super proud of you!
23/02/24 – Congratulations to Campbell P2 who has been promoted to Purple Belt in his recent martial arts grading with Matt Fiddes – Super work Campbell!
09/02/24 – Congratulations to Anna P4 who passed her Swim Skills 2 at DG1 this week and has now moved up to Swim Skills 3. Also Connol P4 has passed his Swim Skills 1 at DG1 this week and has moved up to Swim Skills 2, well done to both of you such an important skill to have! Well done also to Harley P4 who was awarded the under 10 hockey player of the month with Dumfries Hockey Club – what a super achievement!
02/02/24 – Congratulations to Eden in Primary 3, who received a certificate from DG1 for her super progress in achieving Level One in swimming, well done Eden!

Term 2
15/12/23 – Congratulations to Harriet in Primary 2 who won a beautiful purple rosette for the ‘Best Turned Out’ when attending a recent competition with her pony, Geordie – well done Harriet, all that grooming has been worth it!
10/11/23 – Last weekend Angus P4 took part in a swimming competition, he came first in his heats and out of 180 competitors Angus receive a Bronze Medal for Back Stroke and a Silver Medal in Freestyle. Well done, this is a super achievement. In addition to this, Angus represented St Michael’s Primary School in the Dumfries & Galloway School Swimming Championships on Thursday and we shall share with you his success when the medals arrive!
03/11/23 – Congratulations to Marr in Primary 3 who has recently been promoted to YELLOW belt in Karate. What a super achievement, keep up the hard work!
Term 1
13/10/23 – Our Primary 4 pupils have been very busy recently at the MF school of Martial arts, Connol has been promoted to yellow belt, Romeo was also promoted to Brown Belt and Charlie has been promoted to Blue Stripe, Well done to all of our Martial Arts Stars, we are super proud of you hard work and achievements. Congratulations to Charlie P4 and Daisy P2 who recently received their Octopus Level 1 certificate for swimming – What a super skill to have! Harley P4 has been working very hard at his gymnastics club and achieved his level 5 Certificate this week – Fantastic!
A big Well done to Piper P2 who has recently achieved Level 1 in her ice skating lessons.
06/10/23 – Congratulations to Marr P3 who has recently been promoted to Yellow belt in karate, what a super achievement keep up the hard work. Well done to Harley P4 who took part in a gymnastics competition during the summer holidays and was awarded 3rd place overall – that is super Harley! Harley also received a gold medal from the Baptist Church ‘Big Top’ holiday club for the most points earned in the activities he took part in, you are definitely one of St Michael’s Stars. Congratulations to Joel in P5 who, after his recent grading, was promoted to Brown Stripe at the weekend in karate. He had to prove his fitness and perform some drills – What a super effort Joel, well done! Congratulations also to Brody P5 who was promoted to Green belt in Karate this weekend taking a fitness test and performing drills – Fantastic Brody, keep up the good work! Isla P2 received a Certificate of Achievement with the Solway Stars for her swimming progress this term, well done Isla we are very proud of what you have achieved.
